How Can You Find Faith In The Storm?: Daily Devotional for 11th May, 2025

Isn’t it fascinating how finding faith amid life’s storms can feel much like grasping the guiding light of a lighthouse in the midst of darkness?

27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.

- Matthew 14:27-29

In 1978, a fierce storm battered the Great Lakes, crashing raging waves against the shores and creating a wall of tumultuous winds. The air was thick with tension and fear as the dark clouds rolled in, swallowing the light of day. A small lighthouse stood in the middle of this chaos, serving as the beacon of hope for stranded sailors trying to navigate through the treacherous waters. Inside that lighthouse was a keeper named Jim, who had dedicated his life to serving those at sea. That night, as the storm howled and lightning illuminated the sky, Jim felt an overwhelming responsibility to guide the lost sailors home to safety. Despite the fear that gnawed at him, he reached for the old lamp and lit it, casting a warm glow across the churning waves. Jim watched the light flicker and dance through the storm and reminded himself that faith is a light that guides us, especially in our darkest moments. He prayed for the sailors, believing that the light from the lighthouse would help them find their way. Jim’s unwavering faith not only fueled him to keep that light burning but also inspired the sailors who saw it from their boats. Through the storm, they found direction and courage. Jim’s steadfast belief became a lifeline for those lost in the tumult. This teaches us that, even in our own storms of life, having faith—much like Jim’s light—can steer us away from despair and lead us back home. In times of turmoil, tend to your own light of faith, because it could illuminate the path not just for you, but also for those around you.

In 1978, a massive storm hit the Great Lakes, and the unwavering faith of a lighthouse keeper played a crucial role in saving stranded sailors. The winds roared and waves crashed against the shore, filling the hearts of those on the water with panic. But the lighthouse keeper, standing firm in his tower, clung to his duty and trust in God’s protection. He directed ships to safety with the light of his beacon, showing that even in the fiercest storms, hope and guidance could be found. Just like that keeper, our faith can help us navigate our own storms in life. In Matthew 14:27-29, Jesus walked on water to reach His frightened disciples, demonstrating another example of faith in a storm. When they saw Him, they were terrified, but He called out to them, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” Peter, filled with faith, stepped out onto the water. This moment reminds us that faith is not the absence of fear but rather the act of taking a step toward what we believe God can do, even when the waters are rough. Jesus reassures us that if we trust Him and step out in faith, we can find our way through life’s toughest challenges, just as the lighthouse keeper illuminated the path to safety.

When the storms of life come crashing down on us—be it through personal struggles or global uncertainties—we can find hope by focusing on God’s promises. We can look to Jesus, who calls us to step out of our comfort zones and walk on our own waters, just as the lighthouse keeper stood watch through the tempest. Standing firm in His light, we can find faith, courage, and ultimately reassurance that no storm is too great to silence the whisper of our Savior.
