Are You Paying Your Debt Of Love?: Daily Devotional for 03rd July, 2025

Isn’t it our responsibility to express gratitude for the love and support we’ve received by engaging in acts of kindness and compassion, such as volunteering at a soup kitchen?

2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

- Galatians 6:2-3

One Saturday, I had the opportunity to visit a local soup kitchen, where I witnessed a beautiful moment that touched my heart. A young girl, no older than eight, had set up a small table at the entrance, proudly displaying a colorful array of homemade cookies. With a big smile on her face, she approached the homeless individuals lined up for a meal, offering them these delightful treats. The sight of their faces lighting up as they accepted the cookies was priceless. It was as if, in that moment, each cookie was not just a sweet offering but a symbol of love and kindness, bridging the gap between her and those who were often overlooked.

This simple act resonated deeply with the idea of paying our debt of love. The girl, with her innocent generosity, demonstrated that love can be expressed in small yet powerful ways. The Bible reminds us to love one another, and her actions serve as a living testament to this teaching. The cookies were not just snacks; they were a heartfelt offering to those in need. This incident teaches us that we all have the capacity to share our love, no matter how little we may think we have. The higher meaning here is that love is never limited—it grows when shared. Each of us carries a debt of love towards others, especially the vulnerable, and by paying it forward like this young girl, we can build a community filled with compassion and warmth.

Watching that young girl share her homemade cookies reminded me of how simple acts of kindness can resonate so deeply in our hearts. It was a beautiful moment that showed how paying our debt of love can make a real difference in someone else’s life. This idea of love isn’t just a warm feeling; it is an action that we are called to live out every day. You bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ, as it says in Galatians 6:2.” This young girl showed exactly what it means to bear another’s burdens. Her small gift brought joy to those who might have been feeling invisible or forgotten.

We all have the ability to pay our debt of love in small ways that can shine light in the darkness. Like the girl with her cookies, we can look around us and find opportunities to support one another, especially those in need. Galatians 6:3 warns us not to think too highly of ourselves, reminding us that we are all in this together. When we see others struggling, we must remember that we can help lift those burdens through our love and compassion. So today, let’s ask ourselves—how can we pay our debt of love? Whether it’s lending a listening ear or offering a helping hand, let’s commit to sharing our blessings, just like that young girl, one act at a time.

Reflection Questions

  • How can I incorporate acts of kindness into my daily routine to positively impact those around me?
  • In what ways can I cultivate a spirit of generosity, similar to the young girl, in my own life?
  • What barriers might I need to overcome to share my resources or talents with those in need?
