Are You Praying Persistently Enough?: Daily Devotional for 10th June, 2025

Isn’t persistent prayer much like a candle’s flame, resolutely shining even when challenged by fierce winds?

1 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man.
3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’
4 For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man,
5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.
6 And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says.
7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?
8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

- Luke 18:1-8

One day, as I sat in my backyard, I noticed a small plant I had just recently planted. At first, it seemed to struggle—its leaves were droopy, and there was no sign of growth. I found myself feeling impatient and questioning whether the plant would ever thrive. However, instead of giving up, I committed to watering it every day, speaking gentle words of encouragement as I did so, hoping it would soak in both the water and my love. Slowly but surely, something incredible began to happen. After weeks of diligent care, small sprouts appeared, and eventually, the plant blossomed with vibrant flowers that filled the air with their sweet fragrance.

This simple act of nurturing my plant reminded me of how essential persistent prayer is in our lives. Just like the plant needed consistent watering to grow, our hearts and minds require continuous prayer to flourish in faith. Sometimes, we may not see immediate results from our prayers, and it can be easy to feel disheartened. However, it’s important to remember that God is always listening, even when we don’t see the answer right away. Persistence in prayer nurtures our relationship with Him and transforms our spirit, just like the water nourishes the roots of a plant. When we continue to pray with faith, we allow God’s work to unfold in our lives in His perfect timing, reminding us that beautiful outcomes are worth the wait.

In our rush-through life, we often forget the power of persistent prayer. We must nurture our relationship with God through continuous prayer, just as a gardener must tend to their plants regularly. In Luke 18:1-8, Jesus tells the parable of a widow who persistently pleads for justice from an unjust judge. Despite his initial refusal, her persistence eventually compelled him to grant her request. This story encourages us that God, who is just and loving, not only hears our prayers but delights in our consistent approach to Him.

When we pray persistently, we show our trust in God’s timing and His perfect plan. It is not always easy; sometimes, we may feel like our prayers go unanswered, much like waiting for a seed to sprout in the ground. But just as seeds need time to grow and mature, so do our prayers. They require faith and patience. This passage reminds us that God is always listening, and through our continual prayers, we deepen our relationship with Him. So let us be like the widow—unyielding and hopeful—believing that our prayers matter and that God will answer in His perfect timing. Are you praying persistently enough? Let that question guide you in your daily walk with Him.
