Will You Seek Your Blessing Today?: Daily Devotional for 05th May, 2025

Could it be that taking a moment to light a candle and reflect on our intentions might deepen our connection with both our inner selves and the universe, ultimately leading to a greater sense of blessing in our lives?

4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.

- Psalms 37:4-5

In 1986, a group of people gathered in Central Park, New York City, to light candles in memory of those who lost their lives to AIDS. On that somber evening, the soft glow of flickering flames illuminated their faces, each candle representing a life taken too soon. The night air was thick with both sorrow and solidarity, as individuals from all walks of life came together to honor the victims and support their families. It was a moment filled with grief yet underscored by a strong sense of community, as people shared their stories, tears, and hopes for a brighter future. The gentle wind carried whispers of names spoken in loving memory, reminding everyone present of the significance of unity in times of tragedy.

This event serves as a profound illustration of seeking blessings amidst pain. The candles were not just symbols of loss but also flickers of hope that offered warmth to those mourning. In the same way, we invite ourselves to seek our blessings daily, even when we face struggles or heartache. It teaches us that while life can be difficult, there are always moments of light and connection that can guide us through. We can find meaning in our trials by reflecting on our experiences, allowing us to grow closer to one another and to something greater. Thus, the challenge remains: will you seek your blessing today? Like those individuals in Central Park, we too can light candles in our hearts, illuminating our path with love, compassion, and gratitude in the face of adversity.

Today, as we reflect on the poignant moment in Central Park back in 1986, we are reminded of the importance of seeking blessings in our lives, even in times of sorrow. The gathering of people lighting candles for AIDS victims demonstrated a collective desire for hope, healing, and connection. We are called to seek the light in our own lives, nurturing our spirits and trusting in the goodness that God has in store for us, just as those candles flickered brightly against the night.

This brings to mind the scripture from Psalms 37:4-5, which encourages us, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” When we commit ourselves to seeking joy in our relationship with the Lord, we open ourselves to the blessings He has prepared for us. Like those who gathered in Central Park, we should seek out our blessings daily through prayer, reflection, and community. Even in moments of darkness, when it feels hard to see the light, we can trust that by putting our faith in God, we will find the desires of our hearts fulfilled in His perfect way and timing.

So today, I encourage you to take a moment to seek your blessings. What are the desires stirring within your heart? When we take time to delight in God, we begin to notice the blessings that surround us, even in the most challenging circumstances. Let’s commit our paths to Him, trusting that He will guide our steps and illuminate our way. As we seek, let us remember that we are never alone; the light of God shines in and through us, leading us toward the blessings He intends for us.
