Is Your Heart Ready For The Gospel?: Daily Devotional for 20th April, 2025

As you prepare to attend a revival meeting, have you taken the time to consider if your heart is truly open to embracing the life-changing message of the Gospel?

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;

- 2 Corinthians 5:17-18

In 1970, the Asbury Revival unfolded at Asbury College in Kentucky. It all started when a simple chapel service took place. Feeling a deep sense of desperation for a more profound relationship with God, students and faculty began to pray earnestly. They confessed their sins and shared heartfelt testimonies, filling the room with an incredible atmosphere of love and worship. Soon, the word spread, and thousands of people—from college students to community members—flocked to the campus to partake in this overwhelming spiritual atmosphere. People sang hymns, shared stories of transformation, and experienced a deep sense of renewal. Those who attended were changed; they returned home with a contagious enthusiasm for sharing the Gospel.

The Asbury Revival raises an important question: “Is your heart ready for the Gospel?” The openness and willingness of those gathered on that sacred campus paved the way for God’s presence to move powerfully among them. This revival was not merely about emotional excitement; it was about hearts being made tender and responsive to God’s call. The higher meaning in this is an encouragement to each of us to examine the state of our own hearts. Are we prepared to receive the message of love and salvation offered through Jesus? Are our hearts, like the hearts during the revival, hungry for transformation? The essence of the Gospel is about reaching that place in ourselves where we can honestly say, “Lord, I am ready for you to change my heart. The revival sparked a passion for Christ in many, and we too can ignite our own personal revival by allowing His love to fill our hearts and overflow into the lives of those around us.

The powerful event of the Asbury Revival reminds us of the importance of having our hearts ready for the Gospel. This revival was a time when thousands of people, seeking spiritual renewal, gathered together to experience the love and grace of God. It echoes the message from 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, which tells us that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has passed away, and the new has come. This transformation is not just a momentary experience but a life-altering commitment that begins in our hearts.

The question we must ask ourselves is: Is our heart ready to receive this transformative Gospel? Throughout the revival, individuals opened their hearts to the Spirit of God, allowing Him to change their lives completely. We too can embrace that same change today, just as people experienced renewal in 1970. When we prepare our hearts and seek God with sincerity, He responds by making us new, cleansing us from sin, and reconciling us to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:18). Let’s pause and examine our hearts as we go about our daily lives. Are we clinging to the old ways, or are we ready to embrace the new life that Christ offers? Ask God to help you be open to His work in your life, making room for the Gospel to take root and grow. We echo the beautiful reminder from the Scriptures that through Christ, God transforms us, makes us new, and gives us a purpose to share that good news with others.
