What Am I Truly Seeking?: Daily Devotional for 28th September, 2025

Isn’t it in the stillness of solitude, akin to sitting beside a serene river, that we find ourselves yearning for inner peace and a profound connection with our true selves?

10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

- Psalm 46:10-11

I felt a wave of emotions wash over me as I watched the world come together on September 28, 2025, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Day of Peace. People from all walks of life gathered in parks, community centers, and online platforms, sharing messages of hope and understanding. Flags waved, songs of unity rang out, and stories of peace and reconciliation filled the air. This important day reminded us to reflect on not only the outer peace in our communities and nations but also the inner peace we seek in our daily lives. It was a moment that made me ask myself: “What am I truly seeking? I realized that the real quest isn’t just for peace on a global scale; it’s about finding peace within myself in the midst of all the joy. I often rush through life, chasing after achievements, recognition, and material possessions, thinking they would bring me fulfillment. But as I took a moment to breathe deeply and engage with others, I recognized that true peace comes from a heart that is still—one that knows love, kindness, and forgiveness. The higher meaning here is that our search for peace, harmony, and understanding must begin within. This International Day of Peace serves as a reminder that to create a peaceful world, we must first nurture our inner selves and seek connection with those around us.

We reflect on the theme of “What am I truly seeking?”” during this time, it’s important to pause and consider what fills our hearts and minds. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often pursue success, recognition, or material possessions, believing they will bring us satisfaction. However, true peace and fulfillment can only be found when we align our desires with God’s purpose for us. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” This verse reminds us to take a step back from our hectic lives and seek the quiet presence of God, where we can find clarity and direction in our desires.

The International Day of Peace serves as a profound reminder to not only seek peace within ourselves but to extend that peace to others. When we center ourselves in God’s love, we become instruments of His peace in the world. Verse 11 of Psalm 46 encourages us with the assurance that “the Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” Knowing that God stands beside us gives us courage to pursue the right things. As we celebrate this anniversary, let us ask ourselves what we truly seek. Are we striving for worldly validation, or are we yearning for the everlasting peace that comes from a relationship with God? Let’s make it our mission to listen for His voice and let His presence guide our hearts.

Reflection Questions

  • How can I actively contribute to promoting peace and understanding in my community today?
  • In what ways can I reflect on my own biases and work towards greater harmony with those who are different from me?
  • What role does my faith play in my commitment to peace, and how can I deepen that connection in my daily life?

Today’s Prayer

Grant us inner peace and the wisdom to understand ourselves more deeply.
