Do I Rest In Grace?: Daily Devotional for 06th December, 2025

As December 6, 2025, approaches, I recall the very first International Day of Light, which took place nearly fifty years ago. It was a vibrant day filled with hope—a time when people around the world gathered to celebrate the beauty and significance of light in our lives. From dawn to dusk, communities lit candles, held special ceremonies, and shared stories of how light, in its various forms, illuminates our paths, both literally and metaphorically. It was a day that fostered a sense of unity, reminding us that even in the darkest times, a small candle can spread warmth and shine brightly.

But as we reflect on this significant milestone, I wonder, do we truly rest in the grace of that light? The beauty of this day is not just in its celebrations but in its deeper meaning about embracing grace. Just like light dispels darkness, grace helps us let go of burdens and find peace. The message of grace reminds us that we don’t have to achieve anything to be worthy, even though we are often caught up in striving and working to earn favor or love in our daily lives. We are already loved and accepted. As we celebrate the International Day of Light, we should also remember to bask in the warmth of God’s grace and allow it to lighten our hearts and minds, freeing us to shine our own light into the world.

I reflect on the invitation Jesus gives us in Matthew 11:28-30 and consider the burden we often carry in our daily lives. We’re encouraged to find rest in Him, yet so many times I find myself striving to meet expectations and manage countless responsibilities. It’s easy to forget that rest is not just about physical relaxation but a deeper reassurance in the grace He freely offers. When Jesus invites us to come to Him, He’s inviting us to lay down our burdens and to embrace the peace that comes from resting in His love. I remind myself of His gentle invitation in moments of chaos: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”” This promise resonates deeply, yet it requires a conscious decision to step away from my worries and trust in His grace. I reflect on how often I fight for control, thinking that I must carry my burdens alone. But true rest in grace comes when I surrender, acknowledging that I don’t have to earn my worth or salvation—it’s already been given to me. Jesus calls me to take on His yoke, which is light and easy. I strive to rest in grace more each day and find freedom in knowing that I am loved just as I am, without any need for perfect performance. It’s a beautiful reminder that the light of His grace envelops me, shining even in my darkest days. On this journey, I am learning to embrace grace fully—not as a one-time gift but as a promise that sustains me through all of life’s seasons. So, I ask myself again: Do I rest in grace? And I hope the answer becomes a resounding yes as I continue to grow in my relationship with Him.
